First pin-fin heat sinks were already manufacured in the 50ies. But not earlier the the mid 90ies
pure aluminium pin-fin heat sinks were introduced for series production.

This breakthrough was finally made with the support of a basic study on the thermal performance and its influencing factors in cooperation with the Technical University of Aachen. In 1999 the superior performance of pure aluminium pin-fin heat sinks in comparison to the conventional cooling techniques (die-casting, extrusion, forging) could be scientifically stated.

Based on these studies a new heat sink standard was developed for the segment of demanding cooling circumstances. Thermally optimized in pin design, technically standardized and outperforming with pure aluminium. The name of the new heat sink is PINBLOC.

Comparative measurements stated by a neutral institute show:

+ 30 % higher thermal performance ö in comparison to a equally sized extruded heat sink
+ 40 % higher thermal performance ö in comparison to a equally die-casted extruded heat sink

The reasons for this effect are
- material	by a higher thermal conductivity of the material

			of pure aluminium (99,5 %) 220 W/mK
compared to extrusion alloys 180 W/mK
  			compared to die-casting alloys 150 W/m
 - processing	by a high densitiy of the microstructure in direction of the themal flow
 - structure	by an fast and homogenous dissipation of the heat

PINBLOC is a new heat sink technology with a superior performance.
